“Fancy that’ll be Selineh.” Decima said matter of factly. “They don’t give up, do they?”

“They’ve tried so many times to invade Niflheim.” Dimitri told Vienna, who was looking simultaneously fascinated and terrified at the way the ground was quaking. “They’ve never succeeded, Vy. It’s alright. We’ll be fine.” He added, gentler.

“Yet.” Evelyn looked from them to the scene outside, her pupils blown wide. “Yet it feels impending.”

“Don’t.” Decima said, eyebrows drawn together.” “Trust in what happens, Evelyn. But I’d have thought Doyenne preferred having the Royals in the bunker.”

“She felt it’d be prudent to have us elsewhere. Somewhere unnoticeable, in case the castle was attacked.” Evelyn chimed in.

Vienna heard all of the conversation and was still edging towards the gate, even though more Crimson Badges had arrived and were blocking the view. The ground outside was shaking, the castle in the dark horizon almost invisible. She could see faint lights in the sky, like something huge was lurking amidst the very galactic fabric. The thought made her shudder.

“Miss Alcestis, please proceed towards the back of the stables.” One of the Badges said as she approached. Vienna backed up, bumping into Dimitri, who, despite everything going on, laughed.

“Trying to escape, belleza?” Dimitri chuckled. Vienna rolled her eyes.

“I’m not trying to escape from you.” Vienna replied, crossing her arms. The coldness of the ring already felt familiar against her skin.

Dimitri went silent for a bit, his eyes wandering to the stable walls.

“Will you remember us?” he finally asked, awakening from his reverie. “Me?”

“Of course I will.” Vienna said, frowning. “You were a better friend to me than…than any of my earth friends were. Of course I won’t forget you.”

“Friend…” Dimitri repeated, sounding…did Vienna imagine it? Or did he sound disappointed?

“Dimitri, Vienna, over here.” Evelyn called. Vienna turned to look and found her and Decima leaning against the stable walls, their eyes averted towards the gates.

“Let’s go, Mit.” Vienna looked at Dimitri and nodded towards the others.

Dimitri sighed. “Let’s go, Vy.”
